Partner organisations

The organisations behind the Colour Index — AATCC, CPMA, regulatory authorities, and the academic partner network.

The Colour Index is a collaborative publication. The Society of Dyers and Colourists curates the editorial process, but several partner organisations contribute data, expertise, and infrastructure.

AATCC

The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists is the world’s leading not-for-profit association serving textile professionals. AATCC co-publishes the Colour Index and contributes test-method development, quality-control materials, and the North American manufacturer network. See aatcc.org for the partnership’s educational programmes.

Color Pigment Manufacturers’ Association

The Color Pigment Manufacturers’ Association (CPMA) contributes the pigment record set under a structured data-sharing agreement. CPMA-sourced records are flagged in place on the affected entries; see pigments.org for the association’s membership.

Regulatory authorities

We maintain CAS and EINECS / ELINCS cross-references in coordination with national chemical-inventory authorities. The cross-references are an aid to searching against inventories — they do not, by themselves, indicate that a colourant is listed in any particular country’s inventory. See the Technical Info note on CAS numbering for the detail.

Academic partners

The SDC works with universities and research libraries to support educational access. Institutional subscriptions carry significant discounts as part of the SDC’s charitable mission; the Historical Committee curates the Heritage archive of retired and superseded Generic Names in partnership with conservation programmes at several major museums.
