Press

Press resources for journalists, broadcasters, and researchers writing about the Colour Index, the Society of Dyers and Colourists, and the history of synthetic colour.

Journalists, broadcasters, and researchers writing about the Colour Index, the Society of Dyers and Colourists, or the history of synthetic dyes and pigments are welcome to contact us for background, quotes, and image rights.

Press contact

Press enquiries should go to press@colour-index.com. We aim to respond within one working day; urgent same-day enquiries should be flagged in the subject line and confirmed by telephone — contact details for the press office are issued on first response.

Image library

The SDC holds a library of editorial images covering the four print editions of the Colour Index, portraits of named chemists from the Society’s history (Perkin, Caro, Friedländer, and others), and contemporary photography of the Bradford headquarters. Editorial reuse is granted free of charge for non-commercial purposes; commercial-licensing enquiries go to licensing@colour-index.com.

Background briefings

The Editorial Board can arrange background briefings on the history, governance, and current scope of the Colour Index. We do not, as a matter of policy, comment on individual commercial product registrations or on the competitive positions of manufacturers.

Speaking engagements

Members of the Editorial Board, the Historical Committee, and the SDC executive are available for speaking engagements at conferences, university seminars, and broadcast features. Speaker requests should include the event date, audience, format, and any honorarium offered; we are particularly happy to support educational and outreach programmes.
