Submitting a product

How to register a commercial dye or pigment in the Colour Index — the submission workflow, the supplier declaration, and the editorial review cycle.

Manufacturers and suppliers register commercial products against the Colour Index Generic Names that classify them. This note sets out the submission workflow and the supplier declaration that accompanies every registration.

Who can submit

Any manufacturer or supplier of synthetic dyes or pigments may submit a product record. There is no minimum production volume; SDC and AATCC member companies receive priority in the editorial review queue, but membership is not a precondition for inclusion.

The submission workflow

Submissions are made through the manufacturer portal in your account. Each record requires:

  • the proposed Colour Index Generic Name (CIGN) under which the product should be classified;
  • the manufacturer’s trade name and product code;
  • the main application area and any free-text uses or comments;
  • the physical form (powder, presscake, granule, chip, liquid dispersion, liquid, paste, or flush colour — see the Technical Info reference);
  • the CAS number, EINECS / ELINCS number, and any country-specific inventory listings;
  • fastness data appropriate to the application class.

The submission is queued for editorial review and is checked against the registered fingerprint of the proposed CIGN. Routine submissions are published within thirty days; new CIGN proposals go through the next Nomenclature Committee cycle.

The supplier declaration

Every submission carries a binding declaration that the supplier has direct access to full test and safety data produced for the product, and that the information provided is accurate to the best of their knowledge. The declaration is a precondition of inclusion; we will withdraw a record where evidence of misrepresentation emerges.

Maintaining a record

Manufacturers are responsible for keeping their records current — price, packaging, and contact details should be updated through the portal; structural changes (a reformulation, a withdrawal, a regulatory change) should be reported to editorial@colour-index.com.

Cost

Registration is free for SDC and AATCC member companies. Non-member registration carries a per-product fee, set out in the manufacturer portal at submission time. See subscription options for the membership routes.
